George C. Deptula
Mr. Deptula has managed his diversified and extensive trial and appellate practice in Boston for 35 years and also worked in Washington, D.C. for several years in public policy, energy and environmental law. His background and experience provides knowledge, insights and perspectives across many industries and categories of law. He has a reputation as a resourceful, effective trial and appellate attorney, mediator and advisor, and has been involved in many precedent setting cases.
Prior to joining Furman Gregory Deptula he was affiliated with two smaller firms, Berlin, Clarey, Deptula & Levee, and Vena Riley Deptula, LLP, where he was a partner and ran his own practice. He has provided litigation, business advice and dispute resolution services in many areas of law, including general business and commercial problems, contract disputes and recovery of business damages or losses, protection of intellectual property, real estate development, environmental and construction disputes, partnership and closely held corporate problems, professional negligence and liability, general tort, business or personal injury claims, employment and civil rights disputes, divorce, family law and trust and probate disputes. He has participated in numerous precedent setting and reported decisions. His interests focus on the resourceful application of advocacy and persuasion techniques for negotiation, mediation, ADR, settlement and trial, and the efficient, cost-effective management of claims and disputes. He has represented and worked with numerous citizens and environmental groups, including The Union of Concerned Scientists, The Natural Resources Defense Council, Environmental Defense Fund, Center for Law & Social Policy, The Sierra Club, Consumer Union, Safe Power for Maine, Concerned Citizens on I-190, and defended doctors in malpractice cases for 10 years. He is also the founder of Be It Resolved, Inc., a company designed to provide pre-litigation and public policy mediation and advisory services to businesses for prompt, cost-effective resolution of disputes.
Mr. Deptula is a member of the Boston, Massachusetts and American Bar Associations, District of Columbia Bar, American Association for Justice, Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers, and Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. He received his A.B. from Harvard University and his J.D. from Boston University.
He is admitted in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. He is not admitted in Maine.
