Donald R. Furman Jr.
Mr. Furman adopted the practice of law as a livelihood over three decades ago. He melded his practice of law with an accounting background. This educational skill set led to a position as a tax attorney for a large, multi-national accounting firm. He developed a niche as an attorney who can analyze both legal and accounting issues. These facilities were re-combined with a healthy dose of litigation and appellate advocacy experience. He has appeared numerous times before state and federal appellate forums as an advocate for clients. If a client is looking to make a more efficient use of its resources, Mr. Furman's combination of skills is an invaluable resource. Not only is he capable of preparing and understanding complex tax returns, but he can also manage the audit, and the federal or state administrative hearings and court proceedings. His experience is not limited to tax issues. It includes all employment matters, business, and pension related issues, commercial collection matters, bankruptcy, commercial real estate matters, asset protection, estate planning and every area of potential conflict within the normal course of commercial transactions.
Mr. Furman provides to clients of Furman Gregory Deptula the specialized business planning, tax, employment, and litigation needs, allowing the client to focus on the core development of its business. He can, and will, safeguard the client's interests in any administrative or court proceeding, from inception through appeal. The client benefits economically by having a matter resolved through one individual with multiple specialties rather than a number of individuals with only one area of expertise.
Mr. Furman is currently licensed and practicing law in the states of Maine and New Hampshire, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in all state courts, and in all federal courts, including U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and all appellate courts in those states. He is also licensed to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Court of Veteran's Appeals.
Mr. Furman's client mix includes individuals to large corporations (U.S. and foreign), and he averages 15 cases annually as an arbitrator.
Mr. Furman is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, City of Biddeford, Maine; he is a commissioner on the Saco River Corridor Commission for the State of Maine, and he serves on medical malpractice tribunals as well as being a trustee on condominium governing boards.
